Kaohsiung City Critical Pollutant Reduction and Total Control Plan for Rivers,2022

This project compiles background information on water quality, rainfall, population, factories, and livestock farming in the Eren, Aguongdian, and Houjin streams. Using geographic information systems and water quality models, we were able to understand the composition of pollution in the watershed and the spatial and temporal changes in river water quality, and to identify key pollution sources. The results show that the Eren River is mainly polluted by livestock, the Agongdian River is a complex pollution, and the Houjin River is a livelihood pollution. Although the RPI of river water quality has improved significantly in recent years, the Guting Bridge of Eren River, the Qianzhou Bridge of Aguongdian River, and the Renwu Bridge of Houjin River often deteriorate to serious pollution levels, with ammonia nitrogen as the key water quality indicator. In order to improve water quality and achieve RPI reduction to moderate pollution, the best remediation strategy is proposed. With the promotion of resource utilization measures for Eren Creek, the promotion of sewerage and enhanced control of ammonia nitrogen in Aguongdian Creek, and the promotion of sewerage and control of ammonia nitrogen in Renwu District of Houchin Creek, the three watersheds should be able to achieve moderate pollution and a significant reduction of ammonia nitrogen in the RPI annually. In order to enhance the effectiveness of water quality management, the Aguongdian River, which is densely populated with factories, will be selected for evaluation and promotion of tightening the flow standards of the Aguongdian River, and the draft announcement and administrative procedures are expected to be completed in 2022.
